If You Can Find Joy in a Moment, Then You Have Succeeded

There is nothing else to reach for, no worthiness to prove…

This morning, I sat out in my backyard with my coffee, once again allowing the sun to penetrate the backs of my eyelids. I awakened with a little bit of a stiff neck, and some concern in my mind. About myself and what I was going to get done today, and about someone in my family who is struggling.

And then I just felt.

I felt the warmth of the sun and the beauty of the sounds of nature around me. I felt nature’s medicine pouring in and a smile naturally forming on my face. Appreciation.

I said “thank you” in my mind, for the sun. I said thank you for the light breeze that followed. I thought of nothing. Just felt appreciation and contentment.

Then profound wisdom came through.

If you can find joy in a moment, then you have succeeded.

I felt the truth in that statement. I felt it penetrate my whole being. This is our true purpose, and if we can manage this, we should find ourselves to be a success in life.

Whatever you may be pressuring yourself about right now, take a deep breath.

There is nothing you must do to make your life or yourself more worthy of joy. There is no end goal or great feat you need to accomplish to get there. If you can find joy in a moment, then you have succeeded.

We are here to savor the everyday moments. To feel appreciation for the small things, and the big things in our lives. This is the path to success.

It’s a path that has no beginning and no end. It just is.

There is no place you could reach or more worthiness you could strive for, to be able to feel joyful.

Joy is accessible now.

As I sat there this morning, allowing my achy neck and worrisome thoughts be overcome with the sensation of the warmth of the sun on my eyelids, it all drifted away.

I was simply in the now, feeling the feels of the moment. And it felt good. After a while, the gratitude for how good it felt almost had me in tears of joy.

I felt aligned with the Divine, God, my higher self, whatever you want to call it.

Love. Joy. Peace. Gratitude.

In a moment, I felt the knowing that there was no truer calling in life than to fully feel the gifts we have been given. As I finished my coffee and stood up, I bent over to pet my beautiful white lab I recently inherited when my mom passed away.

I felt my appreciation pouring into him as I gave him scratchings that had him rolling onto his back. I felt his appreciation pouring into me, and again, tears of joy in the corners of my eyelids.

This is what life is truly about.

There’s nowhere to go, there’s no great place with which we will achieve the ability to enjoy life. The joy is in the now.

The morning sun on the backs of our eyelids, the gentle breeze, the buzzing of the bees, the healing hugs, and the scratching of the bellies.

I hope you savor a moment in your life today.

Thanks for reading.
