Prayer Allows Us to Surrender and Hope for the Best

Sometimes all life wants from us, is for us to trust. Trust that everything is going to work out for the best. Life wants us to live in peace in our minds, instead of worry and anguish about things we cannot control.

There’s no greater call to surrender it feels (personal to me right now), as when your child leaves the nest. Whether they are heading to off kindergarten for the first time, or leaving for college, it’s a trust fall. In that moment, we are asked to let go and allow nature to take its course. To hope for the best, instead of worrying over the worst.

Worrying about the worst-case scenario is no way to live, which is why I lean into prayer.

Prayer was never something I was taught. I never went to church. I never knelt at the foot of my bed as a child, as I would see kids do on TV, as their parents gazed in from the door. My prayer was born after I devoted to a meditation practice. Through meditation, I found my peace, which made it easier to notice what happens in my body when I worry. I knew worries took my peace away.

Prayer offers me the opportunity to surrender my worries to a higher power. To trust that life is going to flow the way it flows, and I cannot control every aspect of it, as much as my worried self would like.

If I’m going to invest my thoughts and energy toward anything, it isn’t going to be about the things I’m afraid may happen. Prayer helps me guide my thoughts toward outcomes I would like to have happen.

When my daughters are not with me and I can no longer guide them throughout their day, I pray. I pray for their highest self to guide them. I pray for their divine guides (which I believe we all have) to accompany them and support them in moving toward their greatest and highest good. I pray for them to be divinely protected.

Then I thank the energy that I am praying to – the Universe, God, Source, Angels, whatever you want to call it, and I surrender. I’ve done my part. I align my energy with what I want to have happen and I surrender. I send out the vibe of love, hope, and gratitude – instead of fear, panic, and worry.

I think the word prayer has become inert over the last several decades. When you hear a politician on TV say they are sending their “thoughts and prayers”, you can feel when it has no substance. It’s almost become a joke.

It feels like a misuse of this divine energetic tool we all have.

As someone who did not grow up with prayer and has no ulterior motives, I would like to call prayer back into the mainstream. I would like to offer up prayer as a divine solution to surrender. I would like to offer up prayer as something we can do that serves a purpose.

I know my prayers are heard and I feel the energy behind them. They are powerful. And I know yours are too. It’s time to lean into hope, love, and faith. When we do, we can move mountains. Or at the very least, offer ourselves a little peace.

Prayer has become second nature to me, which, as I write this, still sounds foreign to say. Like I said, prayer was never a part of my former life. I was a worrier and I lived in fear often.

After becoming a meditator and knowing the peace of my true essence, I value what words and thoughts do to the energy in the body and the energy of the collective. I never speak aloud what I do not want to have happen. Not anymore.

I know not to put my energy toward that which I do not wish to manifest. Manifestation isn’t only about getting what you want in life. Manifestation can also bring you what you don’t want, if that is what you are focused intently on.

When I focus on something or someone I care about, I want to focus on the best possible outcomes.

You are powerful. Our thoughts and feelings are powerful. And we can use that power for positive outcomes or negative outcomes.

I hope you’ll join me in meditating or praying on whatever it is that you want to have happen, because as a collective, we can change everything when we align our thoughts. Don’t let the worries of life bring you and everything around you down. Turn your worries into prayers for the good of all.

Send thoughts of positivity, hope, and love into the world. Surrender the pain and soften into prayer. I do believe that there are beings alongside of us that we cannot see, who guide us and help us on our journey. We don’t have to carry it all ourselves.

I’ll leave you with this quote from the book, “Outrageous Openness, by Tosha Silver.

“I surrender my worries to divine consciousness, so I may be in peace.”

Use this quote whenever you need it - and surrender.
